Reading/Language Arts Methods I

An examination and evaluation of materials and methods for teaching basic reading and language arts skills in the elementary grades. Focuses on the literacy skills of word recognition, vocabulary development, and comprehension within the framework of a balanced reading approach. These skills are integrated with listening, speaking, and creative drama areas of the language arts. Various approaches of reading are examined as well as different types of grouping techniques. Offered every fall. (Prerequisite: admission to teacher education program. Corequisite: ELE 353 and EDF 323.) (Minimum grade “C”)
