Yancey School of Nursing

Our Mission

“The mission of the Yancey School of Nursing is to equip students as liberally educated nurses in a Christ centered academic environment, with the values, core competencies, and core knowledge necessary to provide leadership and service for the nursing profession. A population focused health care approach emphasizing health promotion and maintenance serves as the foundation to prepare graduates to function independently as clinical decision makers in multiple health care settings and to pursue advanced professional education.”

The Ministry Of Nursing

Established in 2001, the Yancey School of Nursing (YSN) has a reputation for producing exemplary graduates who excel clinically and professionally. The faculty and staff of the YSN believe nursing is a ministry of compassionate, competent, and comprehensive physical, psychosocial, and spiritual caring. Utilizing Jesus Christ as a model of servant leadership, all of the courses in the nursing program are taught from a decidedly Christian perspective. Students are immersed in a supportive learning environment designed to shape them as professional Christian nurses.

The baccalaureate nursing program has been one of exemplary service and growth over the last decade. Most recently, the YSN has expanded its ministry to include online baccalaureate degree completion and graduate level programs. The YSN maintains approval from the Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) and accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Graduates from the YSN enjoy an excellent overall NCLEX-RN passage rate and are highly sought after by employers.

Prepared for the World

“KCU was more than a University, it was also a home for me. Professors didn’t just worry about my grades, but they knew about my life, provided counsel, encouraged me, and pushed me to grow. I felt that my education for ministry was amazing and really helped prepare me for ministry. A lot of my spiritual mentors have come out of  KCU and also some lifelong friendships with fellow students. KCU might not be the biggest school, but it has one of the biggest hearts.”
