KCU’s History Department is a tight-knit community of students and scholars pursuing a broad range of interests and career goals. The department aims to lay a solid foundation for these students to move on to fulfilling careers, further study, and positions of Christian leadership in their respective areas.
What We Offer

Why Study History?
- To understand the cultures, ideas, and conflicts of human societies
- To learn to analyze information, write well, and present ideas confidently
- To take a broad variety of courses, from Western history to the ancient Near East and modern Asia
- To take the chance study abroad or do archaeological excavation yourself
Careers in History
Many people study history to prepare themselves for law school or a career in teaching, but a degree in history offers a broad range of job opportunities including work in archives, libraries, museums, non-profits, law enforcement, and careers in government from the local to federal levels.
While no specific course of study is required for those who plan to enter law school, our History/Pre-Law major has a proven track record in placing students in fine law schools such as the Claude W. Pettit College of Law at Ohio Northern; Capital University Law School; Southern Illinois University School of Law; Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University; and Cooley Law School at Western Michigan University.
The University holds an articulation agreement for preferred admission as well as a 3+3 study plan with Appalachian School of Law.
Study Abroad Opportunities
Through the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, KCU provides its students with study abroad opportunities across the United States and the world. These range from academically intensive programs at the University of Oxford in England to preparation for political or non-profit work in Washington, D.C. to culturally diverse experiences in Uganda and the Middle East. In addition, the KCU history department has frequently sent students to work (and play) on archaeological digs at sites in Jordan and Israel as well as educational tours of Europe and the Mediterranean.
